Contractors are respectively responsible for foundations and array cable installations for 500MW project DEME Offshore and Van Oord have been awarded contracts by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) on the 500MW Fengmaio 1 offshore wind project, off Taiwan. DEME, through its Taiwanese joint venture CDWE, will provide transport and installation services for the project’s foundations as well as its offshore substation. CDWE is responsible for the transport and installation of 33 jacket foundations, the pin piles anchoring them to the seabed, and the offshore substation. CDWE is a partnership between CSBC, the largest shipbuilder in Taiwan, and Deme. For Fengmiao 1, CDWE will deploy its offshore installation vessel Green Jade. The installation works are scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026. This will be the third foundation installation project for CDWE and Green Jade, following the completion of the 300MW Zhong Neng and the progress on the 1GW Hai Long 2 offshore wind farms. Fengmiao 1, located 35 km off the coast of Taichung, will provide renewable energy to Taiwanese businesses. Javier Magro, CEO of CDWE said: CDWE has been at the forefront of Taiwans offshore wind development, leveraging DEME’s extensive global offshore wind expertise and innovative technologies, and those applied to our other offshore wind projects in the Taiwan Strait. “This contract with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners represents another step forward in our shared commitment to delivering sustainable energy infrastructure.” Van Oord has been contracted by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to install inter-array cables for Fengmiao 1. Van Oord is responsible for the transport, installation and burial of the 33 inter array cables, with a total length of approximately 64 km. To carry out the work, Van Oord will deploy its dedicated cable-laying vessel Nexus on the project and use a remote-controlled trencher to bury the cables to the required depth below the seabed. The inter-array cable installation work will start in 2027. Van Oord has already installed inter-array cables and export cables at Taiwan’s Greater Changhua offshore wind farms. The Taiwanese government aims to install 5.7GW of offshore wind capacity by 2025, with an additional 15GW by 2035. |
