Work Detail Goa-based Synergy Shipbuilders has secured a $20 million contract from Tanzania’s Zanzibar Shipping Corporation to build two high-speed passenger crafts, each with a capacity of 650 passengers. The family-owned shipbuilding company triumphed over three Chinese shipyards in a competitive tender process, as confirmed by Siddarth Malik of Synergy Shipbuilders. The vessels, designed as 53-meter-high-speed aluminum catamarans by Dutch firm Coco Yachts, are built to operate at speeds of up to 40 knots in waves up to 4 meters. The crafts will be classified by Italy’s RINA classification society and comply with IMO-HSC-2000 regulations, proudly flying the Zanzibar flag. Construction of the high-speed crafts will take place at Synergy Shipbuilders facility at Mumbai Port, as their Goa facility is fully booked for the next 12 months. The ships are slated for delivery to the Zanzibar Shipping Corporation in the third quarter of 2026. Additionally, the project is eligible for shipbuilding financial assistance from the Union Government, further supporting its development. Synergy Shipbuilders is renowned for its expertise in crafting high-speed aluminum passenger vessels, landing crafts, tug supply vessels, tankers, and various other specialized ships. The company is also currently working on India’s first Unrestricted Pleasure Craft, its first indigenously designed high-speed crew boat, and a 390-passenger vessel.
