President Claudia Sheinbaum explained that this is a project coordinated by the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation and developed by the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and the National Technological Institute of Mexico (TecNM). There will be three models; the price will range between $4,400 and $7,300. Olinia, a project coordinated by the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti) and developed by the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and the National Technological Institute of Mexico (TecNM), seeks to produce mini electric vehicles with Mexican components. This was announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum, who explained that this is the first assembly plant of its kind in the country. There will be three types of mini-vehicles: personal; neighborhood; and last mile delivery. The estimated price will be between 90 and 150 thousand pesos (between 4,400 and 7,300 dollars), depending on the model. The project investment is estimated at 25 million pesos. The aim is to involve private companies “that have also been dedicated for some time in Mexico to producing electric motors in particular,” said Sheinbaum. He also explained that Secihti is working on the design of the mini-vehicle, while regional assembly plants located in different parts of Mexico are expected to be involved in its construction. According to the coordinator of the Olinia project -which in Nahuatl means to move or movement-, Roberto Capuano Tripp, the goal is to launch three types of vehicles by the end of the six-year term: Personal mobility : for young people, for mothers taking their children to school and as an alternative to buying a motorcycle. Neighborhood mobility : motorcycle taxi service with low operating costs for drivers. Last mile deliveries for merchandise distribution : for home deliveries of online and local commerce. |
