Thiruvananthapuram International Airport will begin a major upgradation of its main runway on January 14, 2025, as part of efforts to enhance passenger safety and operational efficiency. The project, managed by Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd (TIAL) under Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), is expected to be completed by March 29, 2025. The runway recarpeting will take place daily between 9 am and 6 pm, with airlines adjusting flight schedules to operate before 9 am and after 6 pm to minimize disruptions. TIAL assured that a comprehensive plan will be in place to ensure continuity of services and mitigate any potential inconveniences to passengers and airlines. The existing runway, measuring 3,374 meters in length and 60 meters in width, was last recarpeted in 2017 and is due for an upgrade to maintain its performance and reliability. The recarpeting work will cover an area of 348,000 square meters, including the runway and taxiways. Additionally, the project will include the upgradation of the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system to LED, improvement of airfield signage, and installation of a stop bar light. During the upgrade, the airport will accommodate 96 air traffic movements per day. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for potential schedule changes or updates. |
