Work Detail The plant, in operation since 2021, is located in the Tarapacá region. It is planned to add a storage system. AES Chile has acquired the 171 MWp Atacama photovoltaic plant from Sonnedix, located between the communes of Pica and Pozo Almonte, in the Tarapacá region. According to a statement, the installation consists of 494,640 solar panels and 48 inverters, and has a 46 km transmission line with the Lagunas 220 kV substation. It is reported that AES Chile plans to build a battery-based energy storage system in the vicinity of the solar plant. In the statement, AES Chiles Market Business Leader, Javier Dib, said that the incorporation of the plant "is our operating entry into the Tarapacá region, where we also have two initiatives - Solar Oriente and Llanos del Sol - for a total of 1,500 MW, currently in the environmental processing process." The Solar Oriente project – with processing initiated in September of last year – includes 581.46 MWp of photovoltaic energy and a battery storage system (BESS) of up to 809.22 MW, to be located in the commune of Pozo Almonte, province of Tamarugal, in the aforementioned region. Construction of the Atacama solar plant began in June 2019 , in January 2021 it began to inject energy into Chiles National Electric System (SEN), and in February of that year it was announced that its construction had been completed . The plant has a power supply agreement (PPA) with the Collahuasi mining company for the supply of 100% renewable energy. Days ago it was learned that AES Chile entered into the Chilean Environmental Impact Assessment Service (SEIA) the so-called Integrated Energy Infrastructure Project for the Generation of Hydrogen and Green Ammonia - INNA, located in Taltal, Antofagasta region, which plans to develop a hydrogen and green ammonia production plant, powered by 1.7 GW of photovoltaics .
