Work Detail The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a flood control structure along the downstream section of the Gandara River in Barangay Minda, Gandara, Samar Province to prevent flooding and mitigate its damaging effects to communities. In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon identified the project as the newly built 200-meter flood wall that stands at three (3) meters and the provision of a pathway equipped with guardrails to ensure the safety of pedestrians. Costing a total of ?40.5 million, the project was implemented by DPWH Samar 1st District Engineering Office, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA). Since its completion in November of 2024, residents have expressed their gratitude to DPWH for prioritizing their safety by building a vital infrastructure project that protects them from natural disasters and further promotes their livelihood, which revolves mainly in fishing and agriculture. Barangay Minda, in the town of Gandara, previously suffered from severe flooding due to the spillover of water from the river, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
