The Government of Ontario announced it is investing $10 million to support the redevelopment of Hamilton Health Sciences’ Juravinski Hospital. “Our government is making historic investments in Ontario’s health care system to expand access to care and make it faster and easier for people to connect to the care they need, closer to home,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “The new and expanded Juravinski Hospital is just another way we are investing in the health needs of growing communities like Hamilton and ensuring people and families have better access to world-class care for decades to come.” This new investment builds on the $7.5 million the government has previously invested in Hamilton Health Sciences to further support the redevelopment of Juravinski Hospital the single-largest health infrastructure project in Hamilton Health Sciences’ history. “The Juravinski Hospital redevelopment will bring the hospital’s nearly 100-year-old spaces into the 21st century. Our patients and teams expect and deserve nothing less than access to modern, accessible health care facilities to support world-class care. We are grateful for the provincial government’s ongoing partnership and investment in this vital community health project,” said Tracey MacArthur, president and CEO, Hamilton Health Sciences Through this redevelopment, Juravinski Hospital will become the largest inpatient hospital facility in south central Ontario, with more than 500 inpatient beds, and will help the region meet the needs of its growing population, making it faster and easier for people to connect to a range of specialized adult care and services, including: A new patient care tower that will significantly increase inpatient services and add over 100 new inpatient beds in single-patient rooms to the facility, providing 70 per cent more space for patient care Renovated and expanded infrastructure to support a planned increase in outpatient care and support programs such as general and orthopedic surgery, adult cancer, intensive care, and general medicine Modernized facilities including the emergency department, allowing patients and families to access quality care in revitalized and comfortable spaces“Our government has made historic investments to improve Hamilton’s health care system, including this additional funding for the Juravinski redevelopment.
