Acquisition of joint control by EEW Holding and Sumitomo has occurred under the EU Merger Regulation The European Commission has approved the acquisition of joint control of EEW Offshore Wind EU by EEW Holding and Japan’s Sumitomo. The deal has been cleared under the EU Merger Regulation and follows on from Sumitomo’s acquisition of an equity stake in the recently founded EEW Offshore Wind Holding in mid-2024. The transaction relates primarily to EEW Offshore Wind’s manufacturing of large steel tubes used in the construction of offshore wind farms. The commission concluded that the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given the limited impact on the market structure. The notified transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure. EEW Offshore Wind Holding bundles the monopile business with the production site in Rostock (EEW SPC) and the associated mechanical engineering activities (AWS Schäfer, Siegen, DE). |
