Work Detail Residents along the left bank of the Catanauan River can now look forward to safer and more resilient living conditions, as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a flood control structure in one (1) of the flood-prone communities of Catanauan, Quezon Province. DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region 4A Director Jovel G. Mendoza, said that the constructed flood control project was implemented to address the recurring flooding issues along the riverside of Barangay 10. Over the years, flooding along the Catanauan River has caused significant damage to residential areas including loss of life, destruction of properties, and economic disruptions. To mitigate these impacts, DPWH Quezon 3d District Engineering Office completed the construction of 255.20 linear meters of flood control structure, with the first section spanning 183.20 linear meters and the second section extending 72 linear meters, effectively closing the gap between two (2) existing structures. "The P74.2 million riverwall will serve as a protective barrier against flooding, safeguarding residential areas, roads, plantations, and other critical infrastructure from flood-related damages, ensuring the safety and long-term viability of the community," added Director Mendoza.
