Work Detail Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will meet with representatives from the electric vehicle (EV) industry on January 3 to discuss key issues, including the development of infrastructure for battery charging and swapping across India, sources have confirmed. The meeting is expected to feature senior officials from major EV Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in India, including Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hyundai Motor India, Hero Electric, Bajaj Auto, Ola Electric, and Ather Energy. Additionally, officials from the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), the Ministry of Power, and Niti Aayog are also anticipated to participate in the discussions. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has been tasked with inviting OEM representatives, major battery manufacturers, and industry experts well-versed in the sector, sources said. Earlier this week, the MHI released draft guidelines inviting proposals for incentives under the Prime Minister Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, which aims to boost the deployment of EV charging infrastructure across the country. The guidelines include provisions for installing a robust network of public chargers, targeting more than 22,000 chargers for electric four-wheelers and 1,800 chargers for electric buses. The scheme also caters to the charging needs of light electric vehicles, including electric two- and three-wheelers, to further enhance confidence among EV users.
