Site in Szczecin will be ready in 18 months to fabricate components to host offshore wind turbines
Windar Renovables has contracted PORR with building a new factory in Poland that will produce towers, masts and foundations for the next generation of wind turbines.
The factory in Ostrow Grabowski in Szczecin will take 18 months to build.
PORR chief executive Karl-Heinz Strauss said: “The need for alternative energies in Europe is huge and continues to grow.
“And so it’s imperative that the appropriate infrastructure is expanded. We are proud to contribute to that with the construction of this plant.”
The main building will have a total area of more than 47,000 sq m and will house four production lines for wind turbine towers along with a warehouse for the necessary raw materials.
An additional smaller building is planned for the assembly of the internal components.
More than three hectares of land will be developed for storage areas, along with access roads and parking for 100 vehicles.
PORR is also building, in Swinoujscie, the hydrotechnical section of a pioneering installation terminal that will service Polish wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
Scheduled to open in 2025, it will be the first terminal of its kind in Poland and one of the most advanced in Europe. |
