The Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat) and Lootah Biofuels have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration in advancing renewable energy and sustainability, aligning with the UAE’s strategic goals. This partnership supports the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategy, the National Biofuels Policy, and directives from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) to promote clean and sustainable energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants associated with fossil fuels.
The MoU, signed by Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, CEO of Emarat, and Yousif Saeed Lootah, Founder and CEO of Lootah Biofuels, establishes a framework for cooperation. It focuses on reducing environmental impact, enhancing air quality, and contributing to sustainability. Senior officials from both organizations were present during the signing.
Key initiatives under the agreement include expanding the collection network for used cooking oils through Emarat’s retail stations, which Lootah Biofuels will recycle into biodiesel. The collaboration aims to create a seamless mechanism for collecting used cooking oils, covering aspects like equipment, processes, customer relations, and financial reconciliation. This step enhances partnerships for recycling efforts, contributing to innovative and eco-friendly energy solutions.
Emarat plans to integrate biodiesel produced by Lootah Biofuels into its retail stations, aligning with MoEI guidelines. The stations are set to begin offering biodiesel blends like B5, with improvements to follow per established timelines. This initiative supports the UAEs transition to sustainable transportation and cleaner energy options.
Additionally, the two organizations will collaborate on feasibility studies and investment strategies to establish a plant for manufacturing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), supporting the UAEs aviation sector. This initiative will not only advance sustainable aviation fuel production but also bolster the UAEs leadership in sustainable transport and logistics. Furthermore, Emarat and Lootah Biofuels aim to explore opportunities for providing biodiesel to vessels at select ports, enhancing the maritime transport sector’s sustainability.
Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi emphasized Emarats commitment to innovative, sustainable energy solutions, highlighting the importance of biofuels in the company’s network. Yousif Saeed Lootah expressed pride in the partnership, viewing it as a model for public-private collaboration to advance national sustainability initiatives. He underscored the partnership’s role in advancing biofuels, sustainable aviation, and oil recycling efforts.
This MoU marks a significant milestone in the UAE’s journey toward economic diversification and sustainable development. By fostering collaboration and innovation in biofuel production, Emarat and Lootah Biofuels reaffirm their dedication to supporting the nation’s clean energy transition and global sustainability goals. |
