Chilean utility Colbun SA has begun the environmental permitting process for its Encanto power project in the O’Higgins region, central Chile, hoping to secure approval to install a 249.7-MWp solar farm with a 260-MW battery energy storage system (BESS).Investment in this project is estimated at USD 500 million (EUR 480.6m), according to Colbun’s permit application with the O’Higgins environmental authorities.
The company proposed to build the facilities on private land in the commune of Marchigue. The Encanto project will combine a solar farm equipped with over 349,000 photovoltaic modules and batteries with a total capacity of 1,040 MWh. A substation and a transmission line is also part of the design.
Construction is planned to commence in April 2026, according to the plan.
