The mega-project will be financed with private capital and will include two ports and a highway that will connect with the Pan-American Highway.
It will be located on a section of the Paraná River that is not affected by the low tides caused by the La Niña phenomenon (Terminal Marítima Escobar SA)
The future “Terminal Marítima Escobar”, located in the Escobar district on the Paraná de Las Palmas River, is presented as a key work for the Argentine port infrastructure. This project, which will be financed with private capital, seeks to become a strategic point within the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway, with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean.
The development includes a multipurpose port, a second port designed for the export and import of commodities and an 18-kilometer highway that will connect to the Pan-American Highway. It also includes rail services at the dock and specific facilities, such as areas for vehicle storage and cold storage. In addition, the incorporation of a Cycle 3 refrigerator in the same location is being evaluated.
During construction, it is expected that more than 3,000 direct jobs will be created, ranging from labourers to specialist positions. At the same time, an indirect impact is expected in sectors such as transport, logistics and supply.
The total estimated investment exceeds 600 million dollars, consolidating it as one of the largest private infrastructure initiatives in recent decades.
The project is currently in the phase of selecting port and logistics operators, with international and local investors and construction companies in the running.
Innovation and sustainability
A commodity dock
of almost 240 meters, expandable to 1000, will complement the operations of the multipurpose port (Terminal Marítima Escobar SA)
The terminal is committed to advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, automation and renewable energies. According to the development specifications, the multipurpose port will be installed at km 77 on the right bank of the Paraná River in Las Palmas and will become a logistics center, simplifying import and export processes.
It will have a 375-meter-long dock, with the possibility of extending it to 1,000 meters, and a depth of 17 meters. It will occupy a 32-hectare site, extendable to more than 80. The commodities port, meanwhile, will be located at km 70 of the river and will have a dock of almost 240 meters and operational areas of 50 hectares, also expandable.
The highway will extend from the ports to the Panamericana, at the height of the Escobar industrial park. The corridor will include entrances and exits close to all the residential development in the area.
According to reports, the project envisages granting the Argentine Naval Prefecture an area of ??operations to reinforce control and security on the waterway.
The strategic location on a stretch of the Paraná River that is not affected by the low tides caused by the La Niña phenomenon will allow ships to operate with greater load and efficiency. “The nautical accesses of the terminals have the advantage of not being negatively affected by the drought situation upstream, since, being located in the southern part of the Paraná River in Las Palmas, they are fully influenced by the semi-diurnal tide of the Río de la Plata,” explained Terminal Marítima Escobar SA.
The terminal promises not only to improve national logistics, but also to transform Argentinas connection to global trade. This project reinforces the countrys potential to attract investment and generate sustainable development.
The strategic role of the Paraná de las Palmas River
The Paraná de las Palmas River, one of the main branches of the Paraná system, stands out as a key natural corridor for navigation and trade in Argentina. Its privileged location in the central region of the country allows for direct connection with the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway, facilitating the transport of goods to international markets.
The importance of the Paraná de las Palmas lies in its ability to integrate various production points with export ports, reducing logistics costs and increasing the competitiveness of Argentine products. As part of the Hydroway, the river acts as an essential artery for the transport of grains, minerals, fuels and industrial products. The construction of modern infrastructures, such as the “Escobar Maritime Terminal”, takes advantage of this natural advantage to boost the countrys export capacity. |
