The New Government Electrical Factory (NGEF) in Hubballi, known for its high-quality electric motors and transformers, is marking a significant achievement with its supply of 14 high-capacity transformers for Gujarats Dahod railway project. The state-owned company, which has gained recognition both nationally and internationally, has been manufacturing power distribution transformers for several years.
A few months ago, NGEF received an order for high-capacity transformers to support the Gujarat railway project. In response, the factory began the production of 14 large transformers. Five of these transformers were initially completed and sent to Hubballi, while the remaining nine are being manufactured at NGEF’s branch in Bathinda, Punjab. These transformers are currently undergoing testing in Hubballi, and railway officials are scheduled to inspect them on January 3 and 4.
SH Naregal, Managing Director of NGEF, stated that the company manufactures transformers with capacities of 400 KVA, 500 KVA, 630 KVA, and 800 KVA. While the unit originally focused on electric motor production, it has shifted to producing power distribution transformers, fulfilling the needs of major clients such as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Indian Railways, and several state-owned electricity distribution companies.
Since its inception in 2002-03, NGEF has significantly increased its production capacity. The company now manufactures 300 motors and 1,000 transformers per month, up from an earlier capacity of 2,000 motors per month. NGEF also maintains the ability to repair up to 1,250 transformers monthly, currently servicing 650 transformers to meet demand from electricity supply companies.
Naregal highlighted that NGEF is not only meeting growing demands but is also taking on increasingly important projects. With the Gujarat railway project set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January, NGEF’s transformers are playing a crucial role in the region’s infrastructure development. |
