The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Sustainability and Innovation Centre (SIC) is solidifying Dubai’s status as a global leader in clean energy and sustainable technology. Through a series of cutting-edge training programs, professional courses, and interactive competitions, the Centre is fostering talent development in collaboration with local and international universities, academic institutions, and startups.
Since its inception, the Centre has launched nine professional training courses, graduating over 220 participants with accredited certificates. These efforts align with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050, aimed at achieving 100% clean energy production by 2050.
Driving Sustainability Goals
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted the Centre’s integral role in advancing the UAE’s sustainability agenda. “The Sustainability and Innovation Centre supports Dubai’s commitment to clean energy while preparing Emirati youth to contribute significantly to renewable energy development. By fostering innovation and aligning with future labor market needs, we empower the next generation to lead Dubai’s transformation into a global clean energy hub,” Al Tayer stated.
Professional Training and Certification
The Centre offers several specialized programs:
Professional Certification Program: Enhances practical knowledge in clean energy technologies, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications.
International Professional Certification for Sustainability Managers: Focuses on sustainability management, including carbon footprint assessments and sustainability reporting.
International Standards Certificate in Renewable Energy Finance: Prepares professionals to develop financial models for renewable energy projects.
Solar Photovoltaic System Design Program: Provides technical training in designing, installing, and maintaining solar PV systems.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Accountant Program: Educates participants on carbon pricing and greenhouse gas reporting standards.
Youth and Community Engagement
The Clean Energy Youth Program trains Emirati students through workshops, field visits, and expert sessions, graduating 105 young professionals across four cycles. The Communication for Clean Energy Program has hosted 37 seminars and discussion panels, drawing over 2,000 participants.
Competitions like the Clean Energy Hackathon and the Little Inspiring Contest inspire innovation among students and professionals, addressing clean energy challenges and promoting sustainable living practices.
Showcasing Innovation
The Centre also organizes the Clean Energy Technology Innovators Exhibition, showcasing solutions in green hydrogen, digital transformation, and energy storage. Visitors experience interactive displays, holograms, and metaverse technology, offering insights into DEWA’s renewable energy projects, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
A Commitment to Sustainability
“The Sustainability and Innovation Centre strengthens collaborations across sectors, fostering innovations in clean energy,” said Waleed bin Salman, DEWA’s Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence.
