Air Kerala has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) to enhance connectivity to cities across South India. The partnership aims to leverage Kannur airport as a key hub for regional travel, the airline announced in a press statement.
Promoted by UAE-based businessmen, Air Kerala plans to commence operations in the second quarter of CY 2025. The airline has already signed a letter of intent to acquire three ATR-72 aircraft and aims to expand its fleet to six within the first year of operations. It is targeting 40 daily flights during its inaugural year.
Although based in Kochi, Air Kerala will have significant operations from Kannur, reflecting its strategic partnership with KIAL. Kannur airport, which began regular operations six years ago, is the smallest in Kerala by passenger volume. It currently offers connectivity to cities in West Asia as well as major metros within India.
“Our partnership with Kannur International Airport Ltd allows us to connect key regions domestically while preparing for international operations,” said Afi Ahmad, Chairman of Air Kerala.
Dinesh Kumar, Managing Director of KIAL, expressed confidence in the collaboration. “We are committed to providing all resources and support needed for Air Kerala to succeed, and we believe this partnership will fulfill the aspirations of travelers in the region,” he said. |
