The Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA) has approved the Las Cunas photovoltaic park project, to be located in the Atacama region, submitted by FRV. An investment of 716 million dollars is estimated.
FRV, owned by Abdul Latif Jameel Energy and the Canadian pension fund OMERS, has submitted to the Chilean Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA) the Las Cunas photovoltaic park, which comprises an installed capacity of 557.52 MWp, with a nominal power of 540 MWn and a BESS system storage capacity of nominal power of 553.66 MW with storage of 5 h, to be located approximately 45 km northeast of the center of the city of Vallenar, commune of Vallenar, province of Huasco, Atacama region.
The presentation states that the project, with an estimated investment of 716 million dollars, will consist of 871,119 photovoltaic panels, mounted on horizontal trackers with a single axis, of 640 W each.
Also, it will cover a total area of ??869.45 ha, of which 630.95 ha will be used for the photovoltaic plant and 6.07 ha for the energy storage system using lithium-ion batteries.
With an estimated useful life of 35 years of operation, the estimated start date of execution is January 31, 2026, with the start of the construction phase in January 2027 and completion of the works two years later.
The estimated start date of operations is February 2029.
During construction, an average of 400 jobs are expected to be created, which could reach 800 at peak times; for its operation, an estimated 20 to 40 workers are expected. |
