The construction of the Xuwen Dongsan Offshore Wind Power Demonstration Project, developed by a joint venture between Mingyang Smart Energy and Germany’s BASF, has commenced in Zhanjiang, China.
This is the first offshore wind power project in China to be approved as a Sino-German cooperation, according to the developers.
In July 2023, Mingyang Smart Energy and the world’s largest chemicals producer, BASF, formed a joint venture to build and operate a 500 MW offshore wind farm in the Guangdong Province, China.
Mingyang holds a 90 per cent stake in the joint venture, called Mingyang BASF New Energy, while BASF owns the remaining stake.
The Xuwen Dongsang Offshore Wind Power Demonstration Project will feature 50 turbines, each with an individual capacity of 10 MW. A 220 kV offshore substation is also planned to be built.
Set to be completed in 2025, the offshore wind farm will provide renewable energy to the BASF Zhanjiang Verbund site, aiming for a 100 per cent green energy supply. |
