Work Detail Offshore contracting giant TechnipFMC has been awarded a contract by oil major Shell to supply subsea production systems for the Bonga North development in Nigeria. The contract was awarded by Shell’s subsidiary, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, and it covers the design and manufacture of subsea tree systems, manifolds, jumpers, controls, and services. No detailed financial aspects of the contract were revealed. However, it was said that the contract was a substantial one which TechnipFMC considers to be worth between $250m and $500m. The deal will be included in inbound orders in the fourth quarter of 2024. “Shell was the first to adopt our Subsea 2.0 configure-to-order solution. This award further positions us for future deepwater opportunities in the region,” said Jonathan Landes, president of subsea at TechnipFMC. This comes following Shell approving a $10bn investment for the Bonga North deep-water project, aiming to sustain operations at its Bonga FPSO. The project will see the company drill 16 wells – eight production and eight water injection wells – and upgrade subsea infrastructure to connect to the FPSO. The project will also involve Shell making modifications to the Bonga Main FPSO. Expected to produce over 300m boe, Bonga North targets peak production of 110,000 bpd by 2030. The project is operated by Shell while TotalEnergies and NNPC are its partners in the project. The Bonga facility began operations in 2005 and has a capacity of 225,000 bopd. In 2023, it produced its one-billionth barrel of oil.
