With funds from Portezuelo del Viento: these are the works that Alfredo Cornejo presented for more than 125 million dollars
They are part of the “Master Plan” for water in the province. The announcement was made this Wednesday and was attended by the general superintendent of Irrigation, Sergio Marinelli.
Governor Alfredo Cornejo and the General Superintendent of Irrigation, Sergio Marinelli, announced this Wednesday important irrigation works financed through the Compensation Fund. They are intended to benefit the inhabitants of the Uco Valley.
The event took place at the headquarters of the Eugenio Bustos Neighborhood Union and was attended by prominent provincial and local authorities, including the Minister of Production, Rodolfo Vargas Arizu; the Undersecretary of Infrastructure and Territorial Development, María Teresa Badui; the national legislator Lisandro Nieri, and the mayors Gustavo Aguilera (Tupungato) and Alejandro Morillas (San Carlos).
These works are part of the Master Plan for the Water Sector and aim to optimize water use, ensure irrigation sustainability and promote the development of agroindustry in the region.
With an estimated investment of 125.2 million dollars, the project seeks to improve the efficiency of water resource distribution, reduce infiltration losses and provide a reliable supply to producers. It also includes the implementation of flexible irrigation systems, such as on-demand irrigation, allowing farmers to adjust the supply according to the specific needs of their crops and soils.

During the announcement, Cornejo highlighted the relevance of these works in a challenging economic context and underlined the technical rigor behind the project. “It is not a minor investment, not only because of the amount, but also because of the technical solvency that guarantees effective results,” said the president.
He also stressed that these initiatives are essential to sustain local agriculture in the face of challenges imposed by competition and technological advances that impact production costs.
The governor also acknowledged the difficulties in maintaining competitiveness in the agricultural sector and assured that the province continues to bet on agriculture as an economic engine. “In Mendoza we trust in our agriculture. Despite the macroeconomic disasters, we continue to protect and promote a competitive sector for the future,” he declared.
He also stressed the importance of efficiently managing water resources: “We have less water than we did 50 years ago, but if we manage it correctly, these challenges can be overcome.”
Marinelli explained that the works respond to a demand from rural society and seek to empower producers, allowing them to decide when and how much water they need. “This model increases productivity and allows us to measure whether the committed resource actually reaches the right person,” he said.
