Trina Solar has achieved a world record efficiency of 27.08% with a new n-type fully passivated heterojunction (HJT) solar cell. Trina Solar has recorded a world record efficiency of 27.08% for its latest n-type fully passivated heterojunction (HJT) solar cell. The result has been verified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH).
The record-breaking cell uses Trina Solars thin-film passivation technology and 210mm×105mm phosphor-doped n-type silicon wafers produced using the Czochralski process.
The company says it has improved cell performance with innovations in full rear passivation heterojunction techniques, multi-frequency RF doping optimization for microcrystalline systems, and ultra-fine line printing technologies, which have significantly increased optical and electrical efficiency.

This milestone marks Trina Solar’s ??29th world record in solar cell efficiency and a significant breakthrough in bifacial contact technology, crossing the 27% efficiency threshold for the first time. It follows previous achievements in October and November, when Trina set records of 25.9% and 26.58% efficiency for tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) n-type monocrystalline cells.
