Sterling Biotech Limited, a joint venture between Perfect Day and Zydus Lifesciences, has started building a pioneering precision fermentation-based dairy protein manufacturing facility in Bharuch, Gujarat.
The foundation stone for the 27-acre project was laid in November 2024, with operations expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, the company announced on Thursday. While the investment details remain undisclosed, the facility is designed to serve as a large-scale hub for producing sustainable dairy proteins, addressing the rising global demand for eco-friendly food ingredients.
The facility has already secured significant bookings for its production capacity, reflecting strong market demand. Additionally, provisions for land and infrastructure will enable future expansions.
“This plant represents a transformative milestone in the global food industry,” said TM Narayan, CEO of Perfect Day Inc. “By utilizing precision fermentation, we are delivering high-quality dairy proteins without the environmental impact of traditional methods. It reinforces our commitment to sustainability and sets new global benchmarks in responsible production practices.”
Perfect Day’s precision-fermented proteins are already used in applications such as ice creams, sports nutrition, and baked goods. Zydus Lifesciences acquired a 50% stake in Sterling Biotech in August 2024.
Shayri Roychoudhury, Chief Business Operations Officer at Perfect Day Inc., highlighted the plant’s role in addressing key challenges in the food and beverage industry. “This facility will not only produce planet-friendly dairy proteins but also cater to diverse customer needs with advanced production processes,” she said. |
