Colombian energy company Celsia has announced the launch of what is presented as the first solar energy storage system in the country, located at the Celsia Solar Palmira 2 farm in Valle del Cauca. The BESS system, made up of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and with a capacity of 1 MW / 2 MWh, is described in a statement as operating for two hours from six in the evening, “but it is adjustable to any time of the night,” it clarifies. The BESS consists of a 6-meter-wide container that holds more than 120 battery packs, and has an autonomous system with a control manager that operates automatically, along with a monitoring system “to guarantee the operational safety of the equipment and mitigation for any type of emergency.” Celsia Solar Palmira 2 is a self-generation plant with an installed capacity of 9.9 MW, “of which 4.9 MW is delivered to the client and the rest to the National Interconnected System”. It consists of 23,610 solar panels located in the form of a roof, “which allows for an increase in power by 5% compared to conventional locations”.
