Work Detail A trifecta of cutting-edge products were unveiled at Hithiums second Eco Day in Beijing on Thursday. Chinese energy storage specialist Hithium has used its annual Eco Day event to unveil a trio of innovative products: a 6.25 MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS), a specialized sodium-ion battery for commercial-scale energy storage, and a zero-installation home microgrid system. On Thursday, Hithium introduced its 8Pack+ high-capacity energy storage platform for full scenarios. According to the manufacturer, its five main advantages are high capacity, standardization, platformization, scenario possibility and easy maintenance. Based on this platform, Hithium launched the 8Power 6.25MWh BESS, which can be configured for two or four durations. In the 2-hour BESS scenario, the battery cell is 587Ah, while in the 4-hour BESS scenario, it is 1175Ah. Moreover, both scenarios would be powered by the Hithium BESS, which is tailor-made for desert applications. The 1175 Ah cell is the highest-capacity lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell introduced to date and is planned for mass production. At its first Eco Day in December, Hithium presented the industry’s first lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell to exceed the 1,000 Ah barrier. At the time, the “MIC 1130Ah” cell was described as LFP’s first battery cell designed for long-duration storage of four to eight hours. “We offer the same safety and reliability guarantees as with our 314 Ah product,” a company representative told ESS News earlier this year. “However, at the 20-foot (6.09-meter) container level, the deployment of the new MIC series will result in 15% cost savings, while offering more than 6 MWh of storage capacity.” The company said it expects to begin mass-producing the new cell type in the third or fourth quarter of 2025. Now, the manufacturer says global delivery of the 8Power 6.25MWh 2h/4h BESS will begin as early as the second quarter of 2025, signaling a faster-than-expected shift toward high-capacity cells. Finally, Hithium is also pursuing an alternative approach to system integration by decoupling system components, including power, thermal management, control, fire safety and output, in a shift it describes as “loose coupling.” “This innovative approach will open up new possibilities for energy storage systems and foster a new industrial ecosystem,” the manufacturer says. Sodium ion cell for large-scale energy storage Like other heavyweights in the Chinese battery industry, Hithium has also been working on its sodium-ion products. It used Thursdays event to unveil its 8Cell N162Ah, designed specifically for large-scale energy storage. This product focuses on a polyanionic cathode paired with a hard carbon anode, incorporating advanced materials such as high-conductivity homogeneous coatings, a hard carbon anode, and a weak-bonding electrolyte formulation. “It achieves a cycle life of over 20,000 and delivers superior performance over a wide temperature range, with high-rate capability, high round-trip efficiency, superior safety, and a state of health (SOH) of 70%,” the manufacturer said without providing full specifications. The 8Cell N162Ah is now available for global sampling, with mass production of 1,000 GWh planned for Q4 2025. Home microgrid system without installation Hithium also launched HeroES, its first zero-installation home microgrid system. It is comprised of a smart storage module (Storage series) and a smart control module (SynergyBox). The plug-and-play system only requires 30 minutes of installation. According to the manufacturer, this makes it “10 times faster to install than traditional systems” and reduces installation costs by a third. HeroES is equipped with Hithium’s ML algorithm, which can improve home energy efficiency by 10%, according to the manufacturer. Global delivery of HeroES is planned for Q3 2025. Established in 2019, Hithium has shipped over 40 GWh of BESS products (cells, systems, and others), ranking as the Tier 1 BESS supplier. Unlike most other major Chinese players, Hithium focuses solely on energy storage products and does not develop batteries for electric vehicles.
