Work Detail Spanish company has been involved in 21 projects across nine different countries Spanish company Navantia has celebrated ten years in offshore wind energy. The company reported on the impact of its business at an event in Madrid to mark the tenth anniversary of its first contract. This first deal was signed with Iberdrola in 2014 for the construction of 29 fixed jacket foundations, in collaboration with Windar Renovables, and an electrical substation in the Wikinger farm in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Germany. Since then, Navantia has taken part in 21 offshore wind projects, providing industrial structures for the installation and operation of offshore wind turbines in nine different countries, both in Europe and the United States. These farms have contributed to supplying renewable energy to three million homes and have avoided the emission of 16 million tons of carbon dioxide over these ten years. Since 2014, Navantia has approved investments of more than €140m to upgrade its facilities for offshore wind energy. “Navantia Seanergies has very ambitious goals for the future,” said Navantia chairman Ricardo Domínguez. “We have contractual commitments until 2032. And that will allow us to fully take advantage of the opportunities in this market, contributing to the decarbonisation of the economy and the energy transition, while also promoting quality employment.” The global commitment to offshore wind energy and the opportunities to promote an industrial supply chain around this activity led Navantia to incorporate this business line as one of its core activities. In 2022, it created the Navantia Seanergies brand, which today encompasses activities related to offshore wind energy and hydrogen. “Our collaborative model leverages synergies in shipbuilding and our value chain,” said Navantia Seanergies vice president Javier Herrador (pictured). “This boosts auxiliary businesses, creates jobs and skills and promotes strategic autonomy in energy.” During its decade in business, the company has generated €1.2bn in purchases and has built a value chain of more than 500 companies. Navantia Seanergies has built 70% of Europes floating structures, in the Hywind Scotland, Windfloat Atlantic (Portugal), and Kincardine (UK) wind farms. Herrador added: “Today we are the only European company that can build the three main types of foundations; jackets and monopiles in fixed technology, as well as floating structures.”
