Work Detail The Spanish company Grenergy has announced that the 105 batteries that will complete the construction of phase 1 have arrived at the Chilean port of Iquique. Grenergy, a Spanish IPP focused on the development of photovoltaic, wind and storage projects, has announced the arrival at the Chilean port of Iquique of 105 new BYD batteries, which will complete the first phase of the Oasis de Atacama solar and storage project. The Chipol Guangan cargo ship, which is coming from Dachan, China, has docked after a 42-day journey with 105 containers on board, containing 1,050 MC Cube ESS modules, with a total storage capacity of 0.6 GWh, the statement said. This shipment of batteries is part of the strategic agreement signed in January of this year with BYD , a high-tech multinational, for the supply of 1.1 GWh of large-scale storage through 2,136 Blade modules of its MC Cube ESS model. In total, the project has a storage capacity of 11 GWh and 2 GW of photovoltaic generation. It is structured in seven phases that will produce around 5.5 TWh of energy annually that will be transferred to non-solar hours. Grenergy reports that the batteries corresponding to phase 3 (Víctor Jara), part of the extension of the agreement with BYD last September , are currently in the manufacturing process and are expected to arrive at the construction site during the first half of 2025. In addition, last October a strategic agreement was signed with CATL to provide batteries for phase 4 of the project (1.25 GWh) . It is also stated that the company has already agreed to sell the energy from the first four phases and that the rest is still in an advanced stage of negotiation and new agreements are expected to be closed in the coming months. With a global investment of 2.3 billion dollars, the project began construction in November 2023. The first phase of Oasis de Atacama is scheduled to be connected by the end of 2024 and the new phases to be completed in 2025. In July, Grenergy announced the financial close of the first two phases of the Oasis de Atacama project for US$345 million with financial institutions BNP Paribas, Natixis, Societe Generale, The Bank of Nova Scotia and SMBC.
