State-owned defence company BEML Limited has been awarded a ?136-crore contract by the Ministry of Defence to supply indigenously designed High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) 8x8. These vehicles will play a crucial role in the Battlefield Surveillance System (BFSS) project, the company said in a statement.
The HMVs will primarily be manufactured at BEMLs Palakkad plant, with additional production at other divisions depending on operational needs.
Commenting on the development, BEML CMD Shantanu Roy highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation and self-reliance in defence manufacturing. He emphasized that the contract aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and reinforces BEML’s role in bolstering the nation’s defence capabilities.
In a related development, BEML recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) to collaborate on research and development for marine applications.
The latest contract win comes as BEML intensifies its focus on defence, rail, and metro sectors. The company expects these areas to contribute approximately 65% of its revenue in the coming years. To support this growth, BEML is planning increased investments in resources, human capital, and capital expenditure. |
