Reliance Power announced recently that its subsidiary, Reliance NU Suntech, has secured a 930 MW solar power project with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) through an e-reverse auction.
The project requires Reliance NU Suntech to install a minimum storage capacity of 465 MW/1,860 MWh, charged by solar power. The company is awaiting the official Letter of Award (LoA) from SECI.
Reliance NU Suntech emerged as the largest winner in SECI’s Tranche XVII auction, securing its allocation at a tariff of ?3.53 ($0.0416) per kilowatt-hour (kWh). The auction attracted bids from five companies for a total capacity of 2,000 MW of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar projects with 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh energy storage systems.
This achievement highlights Indias progress in solar technology integrated with BESS, making it a cost-effective and sustainable energy alternative.
The project will supply four hours of peak power daily and is part of a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SECI, which will distribute the procured solar energy to multiple Discoms across India.
Reliance NU Suntech will develop the project on a build-own-operate basis, ensuring compliance with Central Electricity Regulatory Commission regulations for interconnection with ISTS or Intra-State Transmission Systems (InSTS). |
