Work Detail TAQA Water Solutions has announced a landmark AED 95 million project to develop a cutting-edge Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system across its wastewater treatment infrastructure. The initiative, unveiled at the IDRA World Congress 2024, underscores the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and expanded treatment capacity. The project, awarded to Electro Mechanical Company LLC with consulting support from TVA Engineering, will leverage advanced Siemens technology to integrate and optimise TAQA Water Solutions’ extensive network. A centralised SCADA system will enable real-time monitoring and management of wastewater treatment plants, spanning over 13,000 kilometers of infrastructure, 43 treatment plants, and 260 pumping stations in Abu Dhabi. The SCADA system will employ over 2,000 high-performance sensors and instruments, connecting 91% of TAQA Water Solutions’ wastewater collection and treatment assets. This integration will enhance operational oversight, reduce carbon emissions by 13%—equivalent to nearly 6,500 metric tonnes annually—and lower maintenance costs by 12%, achieving total savings of more than AED 10 million per year. Key benefits include predictive maintenance, early fault detection, and improved sustainability practices, ensuring TAQA Water Solutions remains aligned with operational demands while reducing environmental impact. “This large-scale, AI-driven automation project will significantly enhance TAQA Water Solutions’ operational excellence and sustainability,” said Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of TAQA Water Solutions. “By adopting the latest innovations, we are reinforcing our commitment to public health and securing a sustainable future for generations to come.” Electro Mechanical Company Chairman Mohamed Abdul Aziz Rubayea Al Mehairi highlighted the transformative impact of the project, noting: “The new SCADA system will revolutionise wastewater management and operational efficiency while ensuring full regulatory compliance.” Siemens Middle East CEO of Digital Industries, Mohammed Khalifa, added, “This collaboration demonstrates the power of shared expertise in tackling water challenges. Together, we aim to enhance efficiency, water quality, and sustainability.” TAQA Water Solutions’ SCADA upgrade marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey toward responsible resource management and environmental stewardship, setting a benchmark for innovation in the region’s water industry.
