These are Tocopilla, with 227 MW, and Tamarico, with 167 MW, in the regions of Antofagasta and Atacama, respectively. The firm claims to have reached almost 590 MW of photovoltaic energy production in the country.
The Greek company Metlen Energy & Metals, part of the multinational group Mytilineos Holdings, has announced the inauguration of two photovoltaic projects in Chile, Tocopilla, with a capacity of 227 MW, and Tamarico, with a capacity of 167 MW; the first one located in the commune of María Elena, Antofagasta region; and the second one in Vallenar, Atacama.
These projects complete a business portfolio in Chile of 589.2 MW, joining the Willka solar park, of 109.2 MW, inaugurated in December 2023 , located in the Arica and Parinacota region, and the Doña Antonia park, of 86 MW, in operation since last August , in the Coquimbo region.
The company claims that these projects are part of a portfolio with a total investment of 460 million dollars. In this regard, it should be noted that earlier this year it was announced that the Greek multinational Mytilineos announced the financial closing with lenders BNP Paribas, Intesa San Paolo, Sumitomo Mitsubishi Banking Corporation, Rabobank and Santander Chile, of a non-recourse solar portfolio of 588 MWp, for financing totaling 315 million dollars of senior debt plus 60 million dollars of ancillary facilities.
On that occasion, it was also announced that most of the energy produced by the four projects will be sold to Enel Chile, based on respective 10-year power purchase agreements (PPAs). The projects will also be eligible to receive capacity payments from the grid coordinator.
Together, the four parks are capable of generating around 1.6 TWh per year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 800,000 homes.
The new statement adds that by 2025, battery energy storage devices (BESS) will be added to each station. |
