Work Detail In a significant step toward addressing the global climate crisis, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Solar Alliance (ISA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote sustainable energy systems and expand renewable energy adoption globally. The partnership aims to develop clean energy transmission networks and enhance energy interconnections across regions such as South Asia, the Persian Gulf, Southeast Asia, and Africa. This initiative supports ISA’s flagship program, One Sun, One World, One Grid (OSOWOG), which focuses on building a unified global grid to facilitate the large-scale transfer of renewable energy. Under the MoU, USAID will leverage its technical expertise and innovative financing tools to strengthen ISA’s mission of fostering solar energy adoption, mobilizing investments, and advancing climate-friendly energy solutions. The agreement highlights both organizations’ shared vision of ensuring affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy access across borders. USAID Mission Director Dr. Steven Olive emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “Promoting sustainable power systems that incorporate renewable energy sources is essential for building energy security and driving economic growth. This MoU with the ISA is an important step in achieving these goals globally.” ISA Director General Dr. Ajay Mathur highlighted the agreement’s role in accelerating clean energy trade and mobilizing investments for trans-regional power grids, adding, “The MoU will enhance regional power system planning, create clean energy markets, and foster cross-border electricity grid connections.” The partnership builds on the U.S.-India Joint Statement issued in September 2024, reaffirming clean energy collaboration as a cornerstone of bilateral ties and supporting global efforts to combat climate change through integrated energy systems.
