The Ministry of Public Space and Urban Hygiene of the City of Buenos Aires has issued a public tender to contract works to renovate Plaza Mario Abel Amaya, located on Constitución, between Colombres and Boedo, in the Boedo neighborhood. It is located next to the 25 de Mayo Highway.
“The aim is to address and reverse the problems associated with the configuration of Plaza Mario Abel Amaya and the activities carried out there. It is a plaza that is adjacent to the 25 de Mayo highway and has uneven ground. It has access ramps but a large part of the green surfaces are in a state of disrepair. Both the playground and the seating areas are small. Therefore, a comprehensive reform is proposed to improve the spatial quality through design, remodeling and enhancing the value of the entire plaza, simplifying circulation, rest areas and developing new proposals,” the tender document states.
“In addition, the project includes the following features: – Design a kennel with its own access – Expansion and innovation of the playground – Expansion of the living areas – Easy maintenance – Planting of aromatic species,” it adds.
“The design of the playground is organised on two different levels, taking advantage of the natural slopes of the land to offer a unique playful experience. Aromatic plants are incorporated and the existing casuarina trees are used to evoke the feeling of “getting lost in the forest”. In addition, different playful panels and murals within the playground refer to the chosen theme, senses,” the ministry states in the tender.
A few blocks away is the Plaza 18 de Diciembre de 2022, located at Constitución 3339 and inaugurated in March 2023. It is a public space also adjacent to the Autopista 25 de Mayo. The name alludes to when Argentina was crowned World Champion in Qatar 2022. There, the Boedo Artistic Group installed a mural with ceramics in homage to Lionel Messi.
