Work Detail One of Mendozas main goals is to continue optimizing its irrigation systems and become increasingly more efficient in the delivery and use of water. The General Department of Irrigation has been working on the implementation of reservoirs and a system of “agreed irrigation”, a more flexible proposal in view of the needs of the crops. In the south there are already some experiences such as the case of the Canal Vila reservoir in Rama Caída, which stores 25,000 cubic meters, to cover almost 1,000 hectares and managed to make the irrigation system more flexible, increasing the efficiency in the distribution of water. In the neighbouring department of General Alvear, the Bosch Canal reservoir stores 21,000 cubic metres over some 4,500 hectares. Looking ahead, between December and January, three new reservoir projects will be put out to tender for the Diamante and Atuel river basins. These will be carried out with part of the funds from Portezuelo del Viento. These three new proposals will allow for the storage of more than 200 thousand cubic meters and benefit 9 thousand hectares in southern Mendoza. According to the construction times proposed in the tender, the new reservoirs are expected to be completed between mid and late 2026. THE WORKS In the Diamante River basin, the first project is in the Bombal canal, where a large reservoir is planned to hold 55 thousand cubic meters of water, with a direct benefit for 1,421 hectares and 259 users. The Serú Civit canal reservoir is also planned in the Diamante area of ??influence. It will be the largest in the region with a reservoir of 81,200 cubic meters for irrigation, with benefits for 2,430 hectares and 352 users. Finally, in the Atuel River basin, work is planned on a 70,000 cubic meter reservoir in the Perrone canal that will allow “on-demand” irrigation of 5,333 hectares and reach 250 users.
