Chennai-based Tropical Agro, a leader in sustainable agricultural solutions, is setting up a state-of-the-art factory in Kharagpur, West Bengal. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility has been completed, with construction set to begin soon. The unit is expected to be fully operational by July 2026.
The factory will focus on manufacturing biological and chemical crop protection products, including insecticides, herbicides, and biologicals. This aligns with Tropical Agros strategy to meet growing market demands while prioritizing sustainability in agriculture.
With an investment of ?50 crore, the new facility will significantly boost the company’s production capacity and support its mission to enhance sustainable livelihoods for farmers. West Bengal is a key market for the company, contributing about 10% of its sales turnover. The Kharagpur plant will help the company deliver user-friendly, cost-effective, and resource-efficient products throughout the entire crop cycle.
Spanning 4 acres, the Kharagpur plant is strategically located to optimize supply chain efficiency, reducing logistics costs and delivery times, ensuring quicker access to vital crop inputs, even in remote areas.
The facility will also focus on hiring local talent, creating around 300 jobs and further contributing to regional economic growth. The investment for the Kharagpur factory is being funded through a mix of internal resources and bank financing.
In addition to the Kharagpur expansion, Tropical Agro is planning a new factory in Gujarat and the relocation of its existing Ambattur facility to a high-tech plant in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu. These initiatives are aimed at increasing production capacity and driving higher turnover for the company. |
