Last Monday, for reasons still unknown, a fire was extinguished in solar panels that were stored to be installed in the Alcalde Mayor photovoltaic park, located in the municipality of Abreus, Cienfuegos province. According to local media, only material damage was caused, with no injuries reported. According to a manager of the Cienfuegos Electric Company, quoted by the local digital newspaper 5 de septiembre, the flames originated in a fairly small area, where a group of panels were stored that were about to be installed, so no other resources were affected. According to him, the blaze was extinguished by the workers of the solar installation that is being built even before the arrival of the firefighters. He also said that the assembly and mounting of the panels will continue without problems. The solar plant of Alcalde Mayor The Alcalde Mayor solar plant is part of a joint project of three similar facilities in the province of Cienfuegos, each with a planned capacity of 21.87 MW, which are expected to be connected to the National Electricity System (SEN) in the first half of next year. According to a statement from the Cuban presidency at the end of last October, the Alcalde Mayor plant is 70% complete with civil works and is the most advanced of the three in terms of development. |
