The Shahpur pumped storage project is a critical component of Greenkos strategy to drive the energy transition.
Greenko Group, a renewable energy company in India, has appointed AFRY to provide detailed design engineering services for the 1.8GW Shahpur pumped hydro energy storage project in the state of Rajasthan.
The project bolsters India’s clean energy transition and reinforces the country’s renewable infrastructure.
The Shahpur pumped storage project is a critical component of Greenko’s strategy to drive the energy transition through large-scale, integrated renewable projects that incorporate advanced energy storage solutions.
With a 7.5GW portfolio of clean energy assets, Greenko is committed to efficient storage and the distribution of clean energy across the region.
AFRY’s role in the project includes detailed design, construction supervision and on-site engineering support, facilitated by a resident engineer.
AFRY managing director Sai Seela stated: “This is a landmark moment for the renewable energy development in the region, and we are proud to be confirmed as Greenko’s trusted partner for this new project – a testament to our team’s expertise and dedication in accelerating the energy transition, demonstrated in previous collaborations.”
Greenko previously led a large integrated renewable energy storage project at Pinnapuram, combining 3,000MW of solar, 550MW of wind and 1,680MW of pumped hydro, with a storage cycle of four hours, twice a day.
AFRY served as the lead detailed design consultant for the pumped storage plant.
In November 2024, AFRY was appointed as the owner’s engineer for Neoen’s 79 MWp [megawatts peak] solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Ballinknockane, Ireland.
The Ballinknockane project includes a ground-mounted PV plant and a 110kV substation for connection to the Irish electrical grid. AFRY’s responsibilities for this project cover project management support, design review and oversight of the construction and commissioning phases. |
