It is proposed to be located in the commune of Buin, in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago. The estimated investment is 225 million dollars. A lithium-ion battery energy storage project (BESS) with a total power of 333 MW and a capacity of up to 1,480 MWh with a duration of 4 hours, to be located in the commune of Buin, province of Maipo, Metropolitan region of Santiago, has been admitted for processing by the Environmental Assessment Service of Chile (SEA) According to the documentation submitted, the planned investment is $225 million. The project is expected to start on July 1, 2026, and have a useful life of 27 years, a period that includes one year of construction, 25 years of operation and one year of closure. The project, which will extend over 6.5 hectares of private property, will have a BESS area, a 220/33 kV substation and a 1×220 kV LT transmission line. The BESS area will consist of modular storage equipment (stand-alone BESS), inverters and BT/MV transformation centres that will allow the circulation of energy flow to and from the batteries at a voltage level of 33 kV. The information adds that for the interconnection of the project with the National Electric System (SEN), the construction of a 220/33 kV step-up substation and a 1x220 kV transmission line is planned, which will allow the connection of BESS Metropolitana with the Maipo S/E, where a connection panel has already been requested and approved by the National Electric Coordinator (CEN) through an Open Access SAC request. |
