Work Detail |
The track doubling project between Prayagraj and Varanasi is now in its final stage, with the construction of the crucial Ganga rail bridge also completed. This project, expected to enhance the connectivity between the two cities, will see trains running on the upgraded track during the Maha Kumbh. Following the track doubling, the average speed of trains between Prayagraj and Varanasi will increase to 100-130 km/h.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav is scheduled to inspect the progress of the work on December 8, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the project during his visit on December 13. Once operational, the Vande Bharat train will be able to cover the distance between Prayagraj and Varanasi in approximately one hour.
The project, including the construction of the Ganga rail bridge and the doubling of the rail track, was carried out by RVNL (Rail Vikas Nigam Limited), a subsidiary of Indian Railways. RVNL General Manager Vinay Agarwal highlighted that the proposal for the bridge was first made in 2003, and thanks to the efforts of the current government, work on the Ganga bridge began in 2019. The bridge connects Daraganj in Prayagraj to Jhunsi, while track doubling has been completed near CMP Degree College in Prayagraj and between Jhunsi and Rambagh, connecting the upgraded rail line. |
