Diriyah Company is participating in the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), being held in Riyadh from December 2 to 13, under the theme “Our Land, Our Future.” This marks Diriyah’s first involvement in the global event, with a prominent presence through its pavilion in the Green Zone. The participation aims to promote collaboration between companies and institutions in addressing desertification and drought, with a focus on sustainability. Diriyah is showcasing a range of pioneering projects that demonstrate the highest standards of sustainability and quality of life, positioning Diriyah as a global destination capable of adapting to climate change. The ongoing efforts within the Diriyah project focus on environmental sustainability and the preservation of natural resources. The project, which includes the development of at least eight public parks, more than 20 kilometers of tracks for horses, bicycles, and walking, and the planting of over 6.5 million indigenous trees, exemplifies the Kingdom’s commitment to building eco-friendly, climate-adaptive communities. The project also incorporates state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a comprehensive sewage treatment plant, mobile water treatment units, and over 4,000 electric vehicle charging stations. Diriyah’s commitment to sustainability has been recognized globally, as the project has already earned over 10 sustainability certifications, including the prestigious Platinum Level LEED for Cities Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), making it the first project in the Middle East to achieve this distinction. The project aims to achieve 30% energy savings and up to 50% water savings in various areas. Jerry Inzerillo, Group Chief Executive of Diriyah Company, emphasized the significance of Diriyah’s participation in COP16. He stated, “This conference serves as a global platform for collaboration toward fostering a sustainable future. Our participation at COP16 allows us to showcase our pioneering projects, which reflect our commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.” Inzerillo highlighted the Diriyah project as a leading example of Saudi Arabia’s dedication to sustainability, underscoring the company’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the Kingdom’s environmental goals. “We are proud to contribute to the Kingdom’s efforts to address global environmental challenges, and we look forward to forming partnerships with governments, organizations, and companies to exchange knowledge and solutions to tackle climate change,” he added. Diriyah Company was recently awarded two Mostadam sustainability certifications under the Ajwad Initiative, recognizing its progress in developing Northern Diriyah and the Ritz-Carlton Residences. Through its presence at COP16, Diriyah reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and seeks to explore new opportunities for collaboration in environmental conservation, with a focus on leveraging advanced technologies to safeguard the land for future generations. |
