The Ministry of Public Space and Urban Hygiene has issued a call for public tenders to build a Green Street in Tucumán and a 25 de Mayo street in the San Nicolás neighbourhood (Commune 1). The official budget is $7,549,853,403.
Last year, the GCBA built a Green Street in Paraguay, between Carlos Pellegrini and Leandro N. Alem Avenue, in the same downtown area. Other similar interventions were carried out in Triunvirato, in Villa Urquiza (Commune 12), in Guardia Vieja, in Balvanera (Commune 3), and in Castro, in Boedo (Commune 5).
The project extends along Tucumán Street, between Carlos Pellegrini and Av. Leandro N. Alem, and along 25 de Mayo Street, between Av. Córdoba and Tucumán.
According to official documentation, the proposal “focuses on reconfiguring public space to prioritize pedestrians and optimize accessibility for all users.”
“The project focuses on reconfiguring public space to prioritize pedestrians and optimize accessibility for all users. One of the main features is the expansion of the pedestrian zone, which will provide greater comfort and safety for those who transit through the area. In addition, the inclusion of rest areas equipped with street furniture will provide recreational and meeting spaces for the community. The introduction of shrub vegetation and trees will contribute to improving air quality and creating a healthier and more pleasant environment for residents and visitors. In addition, adaptations will be made to the storm drain system and pedestrian lighting will be installed,” it is explained.

“Another highlight is the relocation of the road axis, which will reduce pedestrian crossing distances and increase road safety in the area. This measure guarantees more fluid access to the frontages and improves the integration of the urban space. As for infrastructure, significant improvements will be made, such as levelling the road and implementing an interlocking and concrete pavement at corner crossings, which guarantees greater durability and long-term resistance,” it adds.
“In addition, adaptations will be made to the stormwater drainage system and pedestrian lighting will be installed. This urban project not only seeks to physically transform the space, but also to improve the quality of life of citizens, promoting sustainable mobility, social interaction and environmental well-being,” they say in Espacio Público e Higiene Urbana.
