Work Detail The Buenos Aires government continues with the works in four districts of the Salado River basin to enable new railway and road bridges. The Buenos Aires government continues with the comprehensive master plan for the Salado River. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services of the province of Buenos Aires continues to invest in the construction of various railway and road bridges in the Salado River basin, a project that will improve traffic and road safety in the districts of Lobos, Roque Pérez, General Belgrano and San Miguel del Monte. The works consist of the construction of three bridges: one railway bridge in Gorchs, General Belgrano district, and two in Roque Pérez, one road and the other railway. The works are in addition to others tendered last fall for the construction of two other bridges, in this case in the jurisdiction of the districts of Lobos and 25 de Mayo. The works in the Salado River basin aim to improve productive connections in Buenos Aires. Regarding the investment, Minister Katopodis praised the decision to continue with the public works: “These works will not only improve traffic flow and safety in the region, but will also aim to connect cities and strengthen the productive network of the province,” said the Buenos Aires official. Along those lines, Katopodis added: “It is not about aggression or empty comments. We are going to solve peoples problems by working seriously, prioritizing workers, SMEs and the development of our cities in every decision.” The Salado River basin is one of the most important natural productive areas in the world. The works on the Salados River basin In the case of the Videla Dorna – Gorchs railway bridge, between San Miguel del Monte and General Belgrano, it will be 276 metres long and, once completed, will link the city of Buenos Aires with Bahía Blanca for the transport of passengers, in addition to the transport of cargo. Meanwhile, the current railway bridge for the Roque Pérez – Salvador railways is being replaced as its deterioration prevents traffic. The adjacent road bridge will improve road conditions in the area, benefiting both residents and producers, and even allowing direct connection to a rural school directly from Roque Pérez. Both projects involve the channeling of the hydraulic section of the Salado River that the province of Buenos Aires will execute in its section No. 4-1b, in the jurisdiction of the Roque Pérez district. New bridges are being built in areas of the Salado River basin. Master plan for the Salado River The Salado River Comprehensive Master Plan is a strategic tool for planning and sustainable management of water resources, intended for one of the most important natural productive areas in the world, which includes a total of 59 localities and 17 million hectares. The works aim to widen the riverbed and deepen its 700-kilometre length, reduce the impact of flooding and recover 8.5 million hectares of productive land. In addition, it seeks to preserve and develop the environmental value of the basin, especially its wetlands, its underground water resources and the quality of its soil.
