Work Detail The Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned ?170 crore for two major tourism projects in Tamil Nadu under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure. These initiatives—focused on Mamallapuram and Ooty—are designed to boost tourism infrastructure and create 5,000 new jobs in the state. Mamallapuram will receive ?100 crore for the development of the Nandavanam Heritage Park, aimed at transforming the town into a global tourism destination. The park will integrate modern tourism facilities with Mamallapuram’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. The development will feature Cholai Vanam (a large garden park), Viharam (a cultural and activity space), and Maidanam (an open arena for events). In addition, 14 public-private partnership (PPP) projects worth ?574 crore will enhance Mamallapuram’s tourism offerings, including retail shops, food courts, wellness retreats, adventure sports, sea-front restaurants, and eco-friendly heritage beach resorts. These projects are expected to generate 2,500 local jobs. Ooty’s Garden of Flowers in Devala has been allocated ?70 crore. The project will highlight the region’s floral diversity with seasonal displays of tulips and windflowers, offering eco-tourism experiences. Additionally, two PPP projects worth ?115 crore will bring a ropeway across the valley and hilltop camping for adventure enthusiasts, creating another 2,500 jobs in the region.
