Work Detail |
United Arab Emirates-based jackup rig pure-play Shelf Drilling has won a contract in Nigeria for one of its rigs.
The firm term of the contract is approximately two years. The contract with an unknown customer is scheduled to begin in December 2024.
The rig in question is the 1982-built Main Pass IV jackup, one of the rigs that received operation suspensions from Saudi giant Aramco.
From April this year, Aramco gave a suspension to five Shelf Drilling jackups – the Harvey H. Ward, Shelf Drilling Victory, Shelf Drilling Achiever, Main Pass I, and Main Pass IV.
In late November, this number increased to seven after Aramco suspended the High Island II and the High Island IV rigs.
Only two remain actively working from the initial nine rigs working for Aramco at the start of the year. Some are still contracted to return to work for the Saudi firm after the suspension. Still, others like the Shelf Drilling Achiever and Main Pass IV have nixed their deals with the Saudi giant and were transported to Nigeria and marketed there.
The Achiever won a contract in September for three years with an undisclosed customer. The deal has options for up to two additional years and the rig started operations in October.
Apart from the two rigs already mentioned, Shelf Drilling has three more rigs – Shelf Drilling Mentor, Shelf Drilling Scepter, and Adriatic I – working in Nigeria. |
