The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the installation of road safety devices along winding road section of Siquijor Province, facilitating secured access for motorists.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Siquijor District Engineer Yusoph D. Rasuman said that the road safety improvement project which covers the installation of double rolling barriers on dangerous road curves of Luyang-Poo-Lazi Road, will help reduce or prevent the severity of accidents in the mountainous area.
“Prior to the implementation of this project, several accidents were reported along dangerous curve segments, especially during nighttime — with motorists hitting the roadside or falling into the cliff” added District Engineer Rasuman.
Implemented by the DPWH Siquijor District Engineering Office, the project also covers the installation of solar street lights and solar pavement markers, designed to help the local community in the mountainous area, without access to electricity.
Constructed in the amount of P95.53-million, funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the project now enhances the safety of motorists and tourists exploring the beauty of Siquijor Island Province. |
