Work Detail The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a road project to benefit an indigenous community in Barangay Pili, Sariaya, Quezon Province. DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region 4A Director Jovel G. Mendoza, said that the road project, funded through the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), was initiated as part of the Convergence and Special Support Program under the Basic Infrastructure Program (BIP). Barangay Pili, a rural community characterized by agricultural activities and a growing population and is home for indigenous people (IP), has long struggled with inadequate road infrastructure. Previously, unpaved and poorly maintained roads created accessibility challenges, especially during the rainy season, limiting residents access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets. The new road constructed aims to resolve these issues by providing a safe and reliable transportation route, addressing the communitys critical needs. The project involves concreting two (2) sections of road in Barangay Pili: Section 1 spans 181 meters, and Section 2 spans 134 meters. Each section features a 5-meter-wide, two (2)-lane road with 1-meter-wide shoulders, ensuring safe access for vehicles and pedestrians. Implemented by the DPWH Quezon 2nd District Engineering Office, the new access road underscores the government’s commitment in supporting rural and indigenous communities by providing essential infrastructure that drives economic progress and community development.
