Work Detail Seamless, faster travel expected upon the completion of an ongoing road widening project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along Digos-Makar Road in the landlocked municipality of Malungon, Sarangani Province. The project, implemented by the DPWH Regional Office 12, covers the construction of 3.93 kilometers of concrete cement pavement, transforming the four-lane road into a six-lane highway. In his report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Regional Office 12 Director Basir M. Ibrahim mentioned that the project’s target completion is scheduled in February of 2025. “Daily traffic volume has significantly increased over the years, making it necessary to further expand the carriageways in order to accommodate more motorists and lessen traffic build-up in the area,” said Director Ibrahim. Costing a total of ?162.39 million, the road concrete paving project also involves removal of obstructions, a bridge component, and drainage and slope protection structures. “This project ensures safety of motorists and long-term durability of the road which connects Malungon and General Santos City, benefitting the socioeconomic statuses of Davao del Sur and Soccsksargen,” added Director Ibrahim.
