The country is aiming for 100% coverage by 2030.
Thousands of people in a rural part of Kenya are being connected to electricity as part of the country’s Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP).
On Monday (2 December) President William Ruto flagged off the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy (REREC) Paranga Electrification Project in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County.
This involved the commissioning of a 33/11kV sub-station in the county.
This latest initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance electricity connectivity in rural areas of Kenya, aiming to bring power directly to the people and stimulate local economic development.
The LMCP entails an infrastructure development intervention meant to increase access to adequate, affordable, and reliable electricity for households, public institutions and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Kenya.
“Delighted to have connected 87-year-old Drisilla Jumwa from Mwanguwi to electricity as part of our efforts to scale up the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project,” said President Ruto on X. |
