The event, held at Madinat Jumeirah, brings global attention to DEWA’s efforts in empowering women and advancing renewable energy solutions.
DEWA’s Commitment to Empowering Women in Energy
DEWA stands as one of the largest government organizations in Dubai employing women in technical positions within the energy sector. The company is a model for both public and private entities in the UAE and globally, with a strong focus on involving women in decision-making roles. Currently, DEWA employs 1,938 female employees, including 797 in engineering and technical sectors. Notably, 1,189 women hold leadership positions, with Emirati women representing 84.83% of the total female workforce.
Showcasing Renewable Energy Initiatives
DEWA’s stand at the Global Women’s Forum features a range of pioneering renewable energy projects, underscoring the organization’s leadership in sustainable energy solutions:
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park
As the world’s largest single-site solar park, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park serves as a cornerstone in Dubai’s clean energy strategy. Currently producing 2,860MW with 1,800MW under construction, the solar park is set to contribute 27% of Dubai’s energy capacity from renewable sources by 2030.
Sustainability and Innovation Centre
Located at the Solar Park, DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre offers an immersive experience in sustainability and clean energy. The Centre showcases the latest in renewable energy technologies, and visitors can explore a virtual tour of the solar park through Metaverse technology.
Research & Development Centre
DEWA’s R&D Centre continues to establish Dubai as a global leader in solar power, energy efficiency, and smart grids. In 2023, the Centre published 73 Scopus-indexed research papers, filed 41 patents, and reinforced DEWA’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy technologies.
Space-D Program
DEWA’s innovative Space-D initiative utilizes nanosatellites to enhance the efficiency of Dubai’s electricity and water networks. DEWA became the first utility worldwide to leverage nanosatellites for improving operational performance, with two satellites—DEWA-SAT1 and DEWA-SAT2—launched in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Advancing Green Mobility and AI Technology
EV Green Charger
DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative, launched in 2014, aligns with Dubai’s vision of becoming the world’s smartest and happiest city. The initiative now boasts over 730 green charging stations across the city, promoting sustainable mobility.
Rammas AI Technology
Rammas, DEWA’s AI-powered virtual employee, is another key innovation featured at the forum. Utilizing ChatGPT technology, Rammas enhances customer experience by understanding user needs and providing real-time support. DEWA is the first utility globally and the first UAE government entity to integrate such advanced technology.
The Al-Shera’a Building
DEWA’s new headquarters, the Al-Shera’a Building, will become the world’s tallest and largest zero-energy government building. Aiming for platinum LEED and gold WELL Building Standard certifications, Al-Shera’a integrates cutting-edge technologies like IoT, AI, and Big Data to create a sustainable, smart building.
A Vision for a Sustainable Future
Through these groundbreaking projects, DEWA is leading the charge in Dubai’s renewable energy transition, demonstrating a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and empowering women in the energy sector. The showcase at the Global Women’s Forum highlights the organization’s dedication to advancing clean energy solutions and supporting the UAE’s long-term sustainability goals. |
