Fisherfolk and residents will soon experience faster, more convenient travel with the ongoing road widening project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along a secondary road in the municipalities of Padre Burgos and Malitbog, Southern Leyte province.
Covering 6.67-lane kilometers of the road which connects Bdry. Southern Leyte-Maasin-Macrohon-Sogod-Jct. Daang Maharlika, the expansion involves the construction of an additional 3.35-meter-wide carriageway on both sides, transforming into a four-lane highway with provision of drainage and slope protection.
In his report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon said that the project’s accomplishment rate is at 80.6 percent, with the target completion set for the first quarter of 2025.
“Upon completion, this road will improve traffic flow, increase road capacity, promote cheaper transportation, and increase agricultural productivity of the fishing community,” said Director Tabacon.
Implemented by the DPWH Southern Leyte 1st District Engineering Office, the project has an allocated budget of ?96.5 million, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA). |
